SIGNED, LIMITED EDITION

WILD COW TALES.
Ben K. Green

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1969. 306pp. Numerous illustrations by Lorence Bjorklund. Beige cloth with a black leather label, title in gilt. First edition, copy #167 of a limited edition of 350 copies (although only 300 are called for on the colophon page). SIGNED. Fine copy. The slipcase is faded around the opening with the number “167” lettered neatly at the foot of the spine. This was probably done by the publisher as all the copies of the limited edition show a number which should match the number of the book. Reese, Six Score 50: “This book is devoted exclusively to cow stories, thirteen in all. Ben mostly wrote about horses, but could do just as well with cows, as this book proves.” Wilson, Ben K. Green: A Descriptive Bibliography…. 11: “Green demonstrates an encyclopedia and very practical knowledge of cow psychology, which he puts to good use in a number of difficult situations.” A classic collection of cow stories chronicling the author’s experiences catching outlaw steers that were too wild to be rounded up.
