VIEWS OF TEXAS 1852 – 1856….TOGETHER WITH A JOURNAL OF HER DEPARTURE FROM TEXAS.
Sarah Ann Lillie. Hardinge

Fort Worth:  Amon Carter Museum, 1988.  76pp.  Illustrations consisting of photographs and nineteen color plates.  Original  paper over decorative boards, cloth spine, printed paper label on the spine.  Designed by William Holman and printed by David Holman at the Wind River Press.  Edited with an introduction and notes by Ron Tyler.  First edition. Darkened strip (approx. 2” wide) on the back cover, except as noted, a fine copy (no dust jacket issued).  Sarah Ann resided in Texas from 1852 to 1856 and her artistic representations of Austin, San Antonio and the surrounding areas are some of the finest depictions of Pre-Civil War Texas extant.  Her paintings and journal are particularly important because they represent a woman’s perspective of Texas, a viewpoint which is rare.  A handsome presentation of an important work.
