Dobie & Dykes 44&44 - Dykes 61: “Hobart was manager of the famous JA Ranch in Texas for a number of years, but this book is much more than the biography of a man—it is virtually a history of the colonization of West Texas…This is a fine range country book, different to be sure, but worthwhile.” Hobart worked for the New York and Texas Land Company which owned five million unlocated and unsurveyed acres in the state. He was responsible for locating, surveying, leasing, and selling these lands. Later, he was responsible for the colonization of the White Deer Lands in Texas. Hobart would, ultimately, become the manager of the JA Ranch, a job he held from 1915 to 1935. This book is valuable for anyone interested in West Texas land, cattle, oil, and business history that comes with this volume.
