The first part of the book deals with Emily Morgan and her relationship with Santa Anna. It also includes an excellent account of events around the Battle of San Jacinto as well as the battle itself. The balance deals with evolution of the song and, with careful annotation, reveals facts and details previously unknown. There is also material on Santa Anna’s enigmatic background which is published for the first time.
