AN EXCEPTIONALLY NICE COPY

THE TRAIL DRIVERS OF TEXAS….
J. Marvin [comp. & ed.]. Hunter

[San Antonio: Jackson Printing Company], 1920. Published under the direction of George W. Saunders. 498pp. Portraits. Photographs. Light blue pictorial cloth with the title in black in on the cover and spine. First edition, Volume One. Except for one small (approx. ¼”) area of  damage to the front cover and a cracked (but holding) rear hinge, it is a very good or better copy of a book usually found in poor condition. Reese, Six Score 61:  “This vast compilation of original accounts by old trail drivers is one of the best cattle books, and the largest collection of first hand narratives of the range cattle industry.”  Walter Prescott Webb:  “Absolutely the best source there is on the cattle trail.”  Adams, Herd 1103:   “….perhaps the most important single contribution to the history on the cattle driving on the western trails.”  Jenkins, BTB 99:  “This compilation is the essential starting point for any starting point for any study of Texas trail driving days.”  Adams, Six-Guns 1084:  “Interesting sketches of early cowboys and their experiences on the range and on the trail….True narrative related by real cow-punchers and men who fathered the cattle industry of Texas….mostly about cattle and, as such, are valuable contributions because they record heretofore untold history.” An exceptionally nice copy of a cornerstone work on the Texas cattle industry.
