J. Evetts Haley

Canyon:  The Panhandle Plains Historical Review, 1950.  11pp.  Illustrations by Harold Bugbee.  Notes.  Original white printed wrappers with a Bugbee illustration on the front cover.  First separate printing from the Panhandle Plains Historical Review. Evetts Haley…..  18:  “A brief sketch of this trail appeared in Some Southwestern Trails in 1948.”  After this initial publication, it was later incorporated into his more extensive work, Fort Concho and the Texas Frontier. This trail was used principally by the Comanches on their raids south into Mexico.  Mr. Haley locates the main trail and its tributaries and gives some of the Trail’s history.  He also provides information on Mike Chevallie, James Kirker, and John Glanton, three of the more notorious “scalp-hunters” who plied their trade along the Trail.
