“THE COW KILLERS” WITH THE AFTOSA COMMISSION IN MEXICO.
Fred Gipson & Bill Leftwich

“THE COW KILLERS” WITH THE AFTOSA COMMISSION IN MEXICO. Austin: University of Texas Press, 1956. x,130pp. Illustrations by Leftwich. Tan cloth with Leftwich sketch on the front cover. First edition. Small stain on the bottom page edges, else fine. The dust jacket shows some minor edgewear and rubbing, overall very good+. In 1949 the United States sent the Aftosa Commission into northern Mexico to stamp out foot-and-mouth disease. Bill Leftwich, a Texas cowboy with the commission, recorded with pen and brush many of the vivid scenes of this bizarre event. There was a good deal of resentment, and ultimately violence, connected with the slaughter of the cattle. Noted writer Fred Gipson wrote the text.
