TEXAS WILD FLOWERS.
Austin: Shoal Creek Publishers, 1972. xi,205pp. Index to the flowers. Bibliography. Plates. Endpaper maps. Embossed brown cloth with Mrs. Johnston’s monogram on the front and rear covers, title and author’s name in gilt on the spine. Second edition. Fine copy. The original mylar dust jacket shows some rubbing but is free of tears and chips. The book is a complete facsimile of the original illustrated manuscript made in the 1840’s and 1850’s by the author for her husband, Albert Sidney Johnston. A beautiful book, it consists of 97 full page lithographs after the original watercolor paintings by Eliza Johnston with facsimiles of her manuscript notations the on facing pages. Includes a biography of Mrs. Johnston by Dr. Mildred Pickle Mayhall. My favorite book, by far, on Texas wildflowers.
