The first two volumes are a general survey of Texas with the last three volumes consisting of biographies of business and civic leaders. Volumes One and Two have material on early Texas beginning with the explorers, early missions and settlements, the battles of the Revolution, Indian tribes of Texas, annexation, the Mexican War, Overland Mail, Texas in Civil War and Reconstruction, cattle trails, the railroads, lawlessness, and more. The last three volumes include biographies of the leaders of early Texas, Texas Rangers, prominent cattlemen, governors and other political leaders, and business and civic leaders throughout the state.
