The white dust jacket shows light toning to the spine and minor soiling, else very good+. Tate, The Indians of Texas 3104: “This excellent work remains the best treatment of Mackenzie’s crucial role in military campaigns against Comanches, Kiowas, and Mexican Kickapoos from 1871 through the Red River War.” Prior to coming to Texas, Mackenzie served in the Union army during the Civil War. His wounding at the battle of Jerusalem Plank Road during the siege of Petersburg cost him the first two fingers on his right hand. This was probably the origin of his nickname, “Bad Hand.”
