David B. II. Gracy

San Antonio:  Trinity University Press, 1987. xx,303pp.  Index.  Bibliography.  Notes.  Maps. Illustrations.  First edition. Fine copy in an equally nice dust jacket. Moses Austin opened the way for Anglo American settlement in Spanish Texas.  Austin came to San Antonio in 1820 with the plan to bring 300 families to Texas.  He obtained permission to establish his colony but did not live to execute his dream.  As he lay dying, he enlisted his reluctant son, Stephen, to carry out his plan.   Based on years of research by this noted historian, it is the most comprehensive biography of Moses Austin to date.
