MIDNIGHT AND NOONDAY; OR, THE INCIDENTAL HISTORY OF SOUTHERN KANSAS AND THE INDIAN TERRITORY…
George D. Freeman

Caldwell: G. D. Freeman, 1892.  406pp.  Frontis. portrait of the author.  Photographs. Engravings.  Original cloth with the title in gilt on the spine.  Second edition, first issue with caption on plate at page 40 incorrectly reading “First White Child Born in Caldwell.”  In this copy someone has attempted to erase “Caldwell” and written in pencil “the Strip” [Cherokee Strip].  Spine is slightly faded and the covers show minor wear, still a very good copy.  Reese, Six Score 39:  “An extremely rare history of Caldwell during this vital period, when it was an important cattle town, and a first hand account of one of roughest of the shipping terminals…..All editions are rare.”  Adams, One-Fifty 56:  “The book contains much material on the gunmen and gun battle in Caldwell, and tells of the Medicine Lodge bank robbery by Henry Brown and Ben Wheeler.” A rare and important range and cattle book based on first person observations.  Howes F353.  Dykes, Kid 21.  Dobie, Life and Lit. p.121. Graff 1411.
