The genesis of these books was the Kiowa tribes concern of losing their cultural heritage with passing of the Kiowa elders. To avoid this, The Kiowa Historical and Research Society permanently recorded some of the tribal memory chain. Kiowa Voices: Myths, Legends, and Folklore tells the tribe’s story against the historical background of the Kiowas’ life in the Yellowstone, their migration onto the Northern Plains with its horse-buffalo culture and their entry into the Southern Plains, where they with the Comanches became dominant.
