One of the first cowmen to drive his herd from Texas into New Mexico Territory, Chisum followed the trail blazed by Goodnight and Loving. At one time he was said to have the largest spread of any rancher in America. Much of the book focuses on conflicts that Chisum participated in--- the Pecos War and the Lincoln County War. Includes a lengthy chapter on Billy the Kid, his exploits, and relationship with Chisum.
