Austin: Prime Time Press, 1995. 297pp. Frontis. map. Red cloth. First edition. INSCRIBED. Fine copy in an equally nice dust jacket. This is a fictionalized but well researched look at a woman who has been dubbed the “Mother of Texas.” The story follows Jane Wilkinson Long who, at age sixteen, marries Dr. James Long. It was Long who led the unsuccessful filibustering expedition to seize control of Spanish Texas in 1819. The narrative chronicles her evolution from a devoted young wife to her fight for survival at Ft. Bolivar and on through Texas history up to her death in 1880
