IN A NARROW GRAVE
Austin: Encino Press, 1968. xviii,177pp. First edition. This is the true first trade edition (no A, B, C, etc on the copyright page) preceded only by the withdrawn “skycrapper” issue. Light foxing to the top page edges and very faint spotting of cloth on the spine. The unclipped dust jacket shows minor edgewear and a couple of faint creases to the front panel, overall very good. Dykes, My Dobie Collection p.11: “There is much on Dobie (Bedichek and Webb) in the essay Southwestern Literature” Dykes ranks this #28 on his rarities list. Whaley, Wittliff 38: “McMurtry’s book is indispensable to anyone who wishes to gain an objective view or who welcomes a challenge to his own predilections.” The publication of this book created great controversy in southwestern literary circles. Nice copy.
