Parrish, Civil War Texana 44: “One of the most important sources on Hood’s Texas Brigade, including experiences in Virginia, and a particularly revealing account of Longstreet’s diversion into Tennessee. Also important for information on the Ku Klux Klan in East Texas during reconstruction.” A well-done account of Hamilton’s experiences in camp and on the battlefield and of the courage, grit, and privation of the ordinary soldier in an extraordinary unit.
