Originally done as a Master’s Thesis in 1929, the Bell County Historical Society published it in 1970. It details the county’s geography, topography, soil conditions, and indigenous flora and fauna, its early history from 1825 to 1850, the period prior to the Civil War (1850 – 1860), the Civil War and Reconstruction Period (1860 – 1880), and its economic and social development up to 1929. There is information on the early settlements, Indian troubles, rangers, prominent citizens, and more. A comprehensive account of Bell County’s origins and growth, it is a valuable resource on the subject.
