Waco: Texian Press, 1965. xii-a,68pp. Index. Index. Appendix. Frontis. portrait. Introduction by James Day. Cloth. Facsimile reprint. Except for a previous owner’s ink stamp, it is a bright, fine copy. The dust jacket shows some fading of the spine and only the slightest bit of edgewear, over all very good+ Jenkins, BTB 61: “The best contemporary account of the Mexican retreat from Texas after the defeat of Santa Anna, this was written by Santa Anna’s second in command shortly after his return to Mexico….gives a fascinating account of the Mexican viewpoint of the Texas campaign.” The appendix contains fifteen important documents written during the campaign between April 28 through June 10, 1836 which shed light on the Mexican operations. With Day’s scholarly introduction, this is the best (and most affordable) edition of this important Texas book.
