The dust jacket shows a short tear (closed with archival tape), else fine. The author focuses on Davis’s command of military operations throughout the various theaters of the Civil War. He includes a great deal of information on the various campaigns and the infighting that beset the Confederate high command. In most cases, these campaigns are accompanied with a map which gives clarity and enhances understanding. The New York Times described this book as “ the best concise book we have on the subject.”
