EARLY TEXAS FURNITURE AND DECORATIVE ARTS.
San Antonio: San Antonio Museum Association, 1974. viii,263pp. Index. Notes. Numerous photographs. Original brown cloth with pasted on color photograph of food safe and pottery, title in gilt (no dust jacket issued). First edition. Small innocuous bookplate of the previous owner, overall, very good. To date, this is the definitive work on early Texas furniture and accessories. The book is divided into two parts. The first deals with furniture of early Texas with examples of beds, benches, chairs, chest of drawers, tables, etc. It provides a photograph, dimensions, type of wood, general description of the piece, the maker (if known) and any markings (if present). The second section covers the decorative arts and includes: silver pieces, pottery, quilts, samplers, fire arms and even gives an example of an illuminated text. Like the furniture section, it provides identifying and descriptive information. In short, this book covers just about everything you would expect to find in an early Texas home. An extremely well written and illustrated work, it is an excellent research tool. Highly recommended.
