EARL VANDALE ON THE TRAIL OF TEXAS BOOKS

J. Evetts Haley
Canyon: Palo Duro Press, 1965. 44pp. Frontis. portrait. Illustrations. Designed and printed by Carl Hertzog. First edition, limited to 500 copies. Laid in is a letter from Mr. Haley to a prominent Texas bookseller dated September 16, 1965. It reads, in part: “We are mailing the five copies of Earl Vandale today…Yours is the last order to reach us before the book went out of print.” Fine copy (no dust jacket issued). Vandale built one of the great Texana libraries which now resides at the University of Texas. It is the fascinating story of this avid collector. Mr. Haley’s wit makes the work most readable and enjoyable. It is one of my favorites.
