COLONEL JOHN ROBERT BAYLOR: TEXAS INDIAN FIGHTER AND CONFEDERATE SOLDIER.
Jerry Don. Thompson

Hillsboro: Hill Junior College, 1971. viii,114pp. Index. Bibliography. Notes. Photographs. Hard cover. First edition (not to be confused with soft cover version issued the following year). Light soiling and minor rubbing to the binding, overall near fine (no dust jacket issued). The author traces Baylor’s life from his medieval ancestors through his birth in 1822 to his 1894 death. He discusses Baylor’s various roles as Indian Agent and Indian fighter, Confederate Army Officer, member of Confederate Congress, governor of Confederate Arizona and post-Civil War rancher. Thompson, an able historian and researcher, relied heavily on the Baylor Papers at the University of Texas and the Texas State Archives. Scarce, especially in the first edition.
