Eicher, Civil War High Commands 1049: “One of the better brigade histories of Civil War literature.” Praised by Jackson, Longstreet and Lee, the brigade served throughout the war in Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and Longstreet’s Second Corps. It participated in at least twenty-four battles. General Lee routinely used Hood’s Texans as the first to advance, the shock troops in battle, and the rear guard in retreat. This particular volume focuses on their military engagements and provides a wealth of information from primary and secondary sources as well as unpublished materials. The second installment of a four volume set by this noted Civil War scholar, it is considered one of the best books on the unit.
