First edition. According to William S. Reese, this is one of ten specially bound copies from a total edition of 500. SIGNED by Stephens. Fine copy. Hunter left Fayette County, Texas in 1849 and travelled with a company of miners to the California gold fields passing through dangerous Kiowa Indian country on the way. Was part of a Ranger Company established by the Governor of California to combat Indian depredations and mentions that they had several fights with the Indian and taken four hundred prisoners.
