A FINANCIAL HISTORY OF TEXAS.

A FINANCIAL HISTORY OF TEXAS.
Edmund T. Miller

Austin: Bulletin of the University of Texas, July 1, 1916. 423pp. Index. Notes. Charts including folding. Printed wrappers. First edition. Very faint library stamp to the upper right corner (no other markings, pockets, etc were observed) with light general wear, except as noted, a very good-copy of a rather fragile binding. Jenkins, BTB 143: “This is still the best work on the fiscal history of Texas in the 19th century. Clarence Ayers called it ‘the standard work in its field by the leading authority on Texas finance,’ and Seymour V. Connor deemed it ‘ a great aid to the understanding of the economy of Texas at that time.’” The book presents Texas’ financial history in seven sections beginning with Spanish-Mexican period and the Texas Revolution and ending with the period from 1881 through 1915. This is a nice addition to William Gouge’s Fiscal History of Texas published in 1852 and between the two you have a comprehensive overview of Texas’ financial history.
