The author, a journalist by trade, traces the history of the Texas Rangers from their formation in the early 1830s to the days of Frank Hamer and Tom Hickman in the 1930s. He recounts the Ranger’s battles against the Comanches, expeditions of the Frontier Battalion, encounters with cattle and horse thieves, border skirmishes, capture of John Wesley Hardin and other exciting episodes. There is information on Jack Hays, John B. Jones, Dan Roberts, John R. Hughes, Bill McDonald and L. H. McNelly, to name a few. Originally done in 1934, this was one of the first Ranger histories done in the modern era.
