SHACKELFORD COUNTY SKETCHES.
Don H. Biggers

Albany & Ft. Griffin, Texas: The Clear Fork Press, 1974. 114pp. Index. Frontispiece sketch of Shackelford County Courthouse by Ronald Thomason. Panoramic photograph of  Albany in 1885 on endsheets. Edited and annotated by Joan Farmer. Introduction by Shirley and Clifton Caldwell. Designed by William Whittliff. Rough-out leather spine with linen boards in publisher’s slipcase. Reprint of the exceedingly rare 1908 original, this is the special limited edition of  100 copies. This copy is unsigned. Sight darkening of the spine, else fine. The slipcase is fine. Adams, Six-Guns 208: “This rare book contains material on the Millet Ranch outlaws and John Larn of Fort Griffin, Texas.” Additionally, there is information on the early settlers including Judge J. C. Lynch, the Matthews family, the Reynolds family, Fort Davis, the Tonkawas, Fort Griffin, early sheep drives and excerpts from early diaries. Not only is this a scarce county history but is one of the scarcest of all Wittliff books. Lutz in his bibliography of the Encino Press books fails to note this special edition.
